It seems that vitamin D dosages under 5,000 IU are rather ineffective. Regular intake of 1,000–2,000 IU won't yield benefits and could lead to kidney stones. It's vital to check your levels; if under 30, I recommend starting at 10,000 IU, but if over 30, 5,000 IU suffices. From personal experience, I took 5,000 IU but switched to 10,000 IU and my levels soared to 90, particularly important as I have arthritis.
