Lactobacillus improves IBS-C symptoms
We investigated how a cultured milk drink containing Lactobacillus acidophilus affects symptoms of constipation in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C). Over 30 days, participants consumed the drink daily.

At the end of the study, an impressive 97.4% of IBS-C participants reported improvement in their constipation-related symptoms. We also noticed reductions in intestinal transit time and pro-inflammatory cytokines linked to IBS. Probiotic improves IBS-C symptoms
We examined the effects of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201 on patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). In a robust study involving 30 participants, we used a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design.

After eight weeks of treatment, the probiotic group reported significant improvements in bowel activities and discomfort linked to constipation. Notably, symptoms like abdominal bloating also improved.

Our findings suggest that this probiotic might help enhance gut health by promoting beneficial microbes and their metabolites.

Probiotics ineffective for constipation
We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 94 children under 5, all suffering from functional constipation. Participants received either Lactobacillus rhamnosus or a placebo for four weeks. While we observed some increase in bowel movements in both groups throughout the study, Lcr35 did not show significant effectiveness compared to the placebo. Overall, our findings suggest that using this specific probiotic alone is not an effective treatment for constipation in young children. It reinforces existing guidelines against probiotics for this issue.

Synbiotics effective for child constipation
We examined whether synbiotics, which include Lactobacillus rhamnosus and other beneficial bacteria, help relieve functional constipation in children aged 4 to 18. In a controlled study, one group received synbiotics while the other received a placebo for four weeks.

At the end of the treatment, we saw a significant improvement in defecation frequency and abdominal pain in the synbiotic group compared to the placebo group. In fact, two-thirds of children using synbiotics reported complete relief, highlighting their effectiveness.
We explored the impact of multistrain probiotics, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, on functional constipation in elderly individuals living in a nursing home. In a controlled study with 60 participants, those receiving the probiotic mixture for 12 weeks showed a slight increase in stool frequency compared to the placebo group.

While the improvement was not significant overall, it became notable by the 71st day when not considering laxative use. This suggests that lactobacillus treatment could help constipation in seniors, although the effects may vary.
