We explored the effects of icosapent ethyl, a fish oil-derived treatment, on major cardiovascular events in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Over nearly five years, this treatment significantly reduced events like stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular death, showing effectiveness across all risk levels.

We examined the impact of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and a simple strength exercise program on preventing major cardiovascular events, including strokes, in older adults. Conducted as a randomized, placebo-controlled trial with over 2,100 participants aged 70 and above, this study revealed that these treatments did not significantly lower the risk of stroke or other major cardiovascular events.

While omega-3 led to some changes in lipid levels, the overall results highlighted that these interventions were not effective in preventing serious cardiovascular health issues in this healthy, active population.
