Despite being brands not on sale, I appreciate the hard spiral perm style. I did damage my long hair with colouring and perming, but the ends that used to suffer do not now (laughs). Due to my lifestyle choices, my nails often struggle; however, I can now open the pull top (laughs). I’m unsure if it's solely this product, as I do use various skin treatments, but I can certainly say my mouth ulcer improves quickly. When it starts, it flattens almost in a day, and at worst, in two. I consider this a handy product to have! (I’d like to emphasise its effect more, but I fear it may lead to medical complications, so I’ll leave it at that. Lol)

Turmeric Curcumin

9
Curcumin nanoparticles effective for ulcers
We explored the effectiveness of curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, in preventing gastric ulcers, especially given its known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. To tackle the common issue of curcumin's poor absorption in the body, researchers developed special nanoparticles coated with oleanolic acid, which improved the stability and solubility of curcumin.

In our investigation, the oleanolic acid-coated curcumin nanoparticles, or OC NPs, were tested in both laboratory settings and live animal models. Not only did we observe a reduction in inflammation and oxidative stress in cells, but the nanoparticles also showed promising results in protecting mice from ethanol-induced gastric ulcers. This protection came with a decrease in inflammation and an increase in antioxidant levels in their systems.

Histological studies indicated that OC NPs better preserved the gastric mucosa while minimizing damage like fibrosis and cell death. Moreover, they stayed longer in the stomach, enhancing the targeted delivery of curcumin. Overall, our findings suggest that oleanolic acid-coated curcumin nanoparticles could be a safe and effective option to prevent gastric ulcers, making this approach a noteworthy advancement in gastrointestinal health.

Sports Fish Oil Omegas

7
EPA and GLA show localized benefits
We examined the effects of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in conjunction with gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) on ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. The study involved thirty-six male Wistar rats that were divided into three groups to observe how well these substances could impact the development of the disease.

Each group experienced a different treatment: one received only water, another was fed a high-caloric diet, and the last group consumed a diet rich in both EPA and GLA. We measured disease activity and inflammation levels, looking closely at the rats' intestinal, liver, spleen, and lung tissues to gauge the effects.

While we noted some positive changes—like lower inflammatory markers and reduced immune cell infiltration in the group receiving both EPA and GLA—overall, the differences in disease activity were not statistically significant. This suggests that while there might be localized anti-inflammatory benefits, the combined treatment did not markedly improve the overall ulcerative colitis symptoms compared to other diets.

In summary, our exploration into the combination of EPA and GLA shows promise toward improving some internal symptoms, but we did not find compelling evidence that this combination benefits the broader aspects of the disease.

Iron

9
Iron-based hoof care effectiveness
We examined how a hoof care product containing iron, among other ingredients, impacts digital dermatitis (DD) in dairy cows. In our study, we compared two groups of 132 cows in Germany—one treated with a product made of iron complex salts, zinc salts, and aluminum, and the other serving as a control group that received no product aside from washing. We applied the treatment on one hind foot of each cow twice a week for a year while monitoring the prevalence and severity of DD lesions.

Throughout the study, we observed notable results. The treatment group displayed a significantly smaller overall disease severity compared to the control group. Specifically, the odds of having an active DD lesion were nearly six times higher in those without treatment. Interestingly, heifers that joined during the trial received the treatment beforehand and experienced a marked reduction in active lesions compared to their untreated counterparts. This suggests that the combination of iron and other ingredients effectively lessens the impact of this common hoof disease in dairy herds.

In conclusion, the findings highlight the potential of this hoof care product, not just in treating existing cases of DD but also in preventing new ones, especially in young animals entering herds. While we acknowledge that iron acts alongside other components, the overall effectiveness of the product is worth noting for those seeking alternatives to traditional chemicals in hoof care.

Vitamin C positively influences gut microbiome
We explored how vitamin C affects the gut microbiome of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) in a study involving 49 outpatient subjects. The participants were evaluated between June and December 2021, and they were divided into groups based on whether they had contracted COVID-19 in the prior six months. Our primary focus was to assess not just the impact of vitamin C, but also to consider the effects of antibiotics, probiotics, and the history of COVID-19 on their gut health.

Interestingly, we observed that those who used vitamin C supplements had more beneficial elements in their gut microbiome compared to those who did not. The study found a significant difference, indicating that vitamin C users had better microbiome readings, suggesting a positive influence on their gut health. However, while vitamin C presented statistically significant results, we noted that other factors such as antibiotic use also played a crucial role.

Importantly, the use of antibiotics negatively impacted the gut microbiome, which raises questions about the interplay between different treatments. There was also no significant impact found regarding mild COVID-19 on patients’ gut microbiomes, adding another layer to our understanding of these interactions. Ultimately, while vitamin C showed promise, the overall picture suggests that it's part of a broader landscape of factors affecting ulcerative colitis.

Probiotics

9
Saccharomyces boulardii aids ulcer treatment
This study examined how Saccharomyces boulardii supernatant (SbS) impacts ulcerative colitis (UC) by activating the FXR-NLRP3 signaling pathway. We used a murine model to assess the effects of SbS compared to a control group.

Our findings showed that SbS not only activated FXR but also suppressed the NLRP3 inflammasome in colonic tissues. It reduced macrophage pyroptosis, a process linked to inflammation. However, the benefits were reversed by an FXR inhibitor, indicating that FXR’s activation is crucial for SbS's effects.

Sea Buckthorn

We explored whether sea buckthorn berries could help treat and prevent gastric ulcers in horses. In a crossover study with eight Thoroughbred horses, we compared untreated controls with those receiving a sea buckthorn supplement over four weeks.

While the treatment did not appear effective for naturally occurring nonglandular ulcers, results showed that glandular ulcer scores were notably lower in horses given the supplement after periods of feed deprivation. This suggests potential benefits for preventing glandular ulcers in stall-confined horses experiencing intermittent feeding.

Zinc

We investigated the effects of zinc hyaluronate (ZnHA) on ulcerative colitis (UC) using a mouse model that simulates the condition. This study aimed to explore how ZnHA could potentially alleviate the symptoms of UC, focusing on factors like inflammation and gut health.

Our experiments showed that ZnHA significantly reduced key symptoms associated with UC, such as weight loss, loose stools, and the presence of blood in stools. We also noticed notable changes at a cellular level; ZnHA helped decrease levels of inflammatory markers like tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 while boosting interleukin-10, a factor known for anti-inflammatory effects.

Additionally, our findings revealed that ZnHA positively impacted gut bacteria. It fostered the growth of beneficial bacteria that produce propionic acid, which is crucial for gut health. We also observed that ZnHA enhanced the function of proteins that maintain the intestinal barrier, such as ZO-1 and occludin.

Overall, our exploration highlights the potential of ZnHA as a supportive treatment for UC by targeting inflammation and promoting a healthy gut environment. This study provides new insights that could encourage further development of hyaluronic acid-based treatments for UC and similar conditions.

I took 1 tablet of Glutamine, and an hour later, I felt better. Additionally, I have occasional allergies on my hands. The dryness reduces significantly after a few days of taking Glutamine.

L Carnosine

9
Polaprezinc reduces ulcer inflammation
We focused on the effects of polaprezinc (Pol), a compound that includes l-carnosine, and its ability to reduce inflammation in cells associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Through experiments involving LPS-induced BV-2 microglia, we observed that Pol successfully lowered the levels of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are often elevated during inflammatory responses.

Notably, Pol also suppressed the expression of key inflammatory markers, including iNOS, COX-2, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β. These promising findings indicate that Pol could contribute beneficially to managing inflammation linked to ulcers.

Additionally, we investigated whether combining Pol with aspergillusidone G (Asp G) could further enhance its anti-inflammatory effects. What we found was quite remarkable: low doses of Asp G boosted Pol's ability to inhibit NO production from about 30% to an impressive 80%. Our analyses pointed toward the involvement of several molecular targets in this synergistic effect, further supporting Pol's potential role in addressing neuroinflammation.

Overall, while the study does suggest that l-carnosine, as part of Pol, plays a functional role concerning ulcers, it doesn’t isolate its specific contribution. Thus, more targeted research would be necessary to directly link l-carnosine's effectiveness to ulcer treatment.

Omega-3 fish oil benefits ulcers
We assessed how different types of fatty acid supplements affect squamous gastric ulcers in Thoroughbred horses.

After evaluating the horses’ ulcer scores and blood fatty acid levels, we found that long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (like those in fish oil) not only boosted certain beneficial fatty acids but were also linked to a decrease in the severity of ulcers.

In contrast, short-chain fatty acids did not show significant benefits.

This finding highlights the potential of long-chain omega-3 fish oil to aid in managing gastric ulcers in high-performance horses.

Enzymes

We explored how coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) might protect against tissue damage caused by piroxicam, a common anti-inflammatory drug known to cause gastric and organ toxicity. In our investigation, we assigned rats to different groups, including controls and those receiving CoQ10, piroxicam, or a combination of both.

Over a 28-day period, we observed that administering piroxicam resulted in severe gastric ulcers as well as significant liver and kidney damage. These toxic effects appeared linked to oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Elevated levels of malondialdehyde, along with decreased levels of protective antioxidants, indicated that harmful free radicals were at play. Additionally, we noticed an increase in apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in the affected organs, showcased by raised caspase-3 levels.

Interestingly, the inclusion of CoQ10 led to a noticeable reduction in oxidative damage and cell death caused by piroxicam. This suggests that CoQ10's ability to scavenge free radicals played a crucial role in mitigating the damage. Overall, our findings support CoQ10 as a potential protective agent against the harmful effects of piroxicam.

Magnesium

7
Magnesium impact on ulcers assessed
In our investigation, we closely examined the effects of a dietary supplement containing magnesium on gastric ulcers in finishing pigs. We used a structured approach, implementing a randomized complete block design with groups of barrows and gilts weighing around 86.5 kg. Our treatments varied, including a control group, a fasting treatment, and combinations of vitamin U and antacids.

The results were intriguing, particularly when it came to assessing the overall health of the pigs. We found that incorporating a treatment with vitamin U and magnesium led to heightened growth performance in one specific group. While there was a positive increase in body weight and daily gain, we observed no significant changes in carcass scores across the different treatments, nor did we see magnesium alone provide overwhelming benefits for gastric ulcers.

Overall, our study indicated that while magnesium seemed to support growth improvements, it did not significantly alleviate the severity of gastric ulcers when considered separately. It appears that the combination with vitamin U and antacids played a more critical role than magnesium on its own.

TTT boosts ulcer healing efficiency
We explored how tibial transverse transport (TTT) can speed up healing in chronic foot ulcers through its effects on certain cells and pathways. In our study, we observed rabbits with induced foot ulcers undergoing unilateral and bilateral TTT surgeries.

Results showed that TTT not only decreased healing time but also increased critical healing factors like collagen and microvascular markers. The treatment amplified the levels of VEGFA and CXCL12, which help mobilize endothelial progenitor cells, thereby enhancing blood vessel formation and aiding in the overall healing process.

These findings suggest that TTT is an effective method for accelerating ulcer recovery.
